The subject I have chosen to do my visual storytelling on is the shooting at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This incident happened on April 30, 2019 just before 6 pm. The shooter left two people killed and four wounded. Three of them were left in critical condition. The reason I chose this topic is because school shootings have become very common and it shouldn’t be as common as we play them out to be. We shouldn’t be getting use to hearing about school shootings or mass shootings in general. Even though I am someone who supports and stands behind the Second Amendment, I think stricter gun laws need to be placed. Shootings need to be stopped and stop taking thousands of innocent lives. The shooting at University of North Carolina at Charolette is just one of the many mass shootings we hear about in the news and media.

Suspect Trystan Terrell, 22. He faces multiple charges for shooting and murder (Faith Karimi, CNN). Providing the mug shot of the suspect shows what he looks like and provides us with a visual. The article went on to say, Trystan smiled at cameras after being taken by police.
Reed Parlier, 19, was one of the two victims that was killed in school shooting (Faith Karimi, CNN). Family of Parlier said he was witty and quiet and gifted with academics. He was studying IT software development in dreams to become a video gamer (The Associated Press, News 13).
Riley Howell, 21, was the second victim killed in school shooting. Howell died a hero says the police. He tacked the gunman and saved many lives that day (Nicole Darrah, FOX news).

I chose these photos because I think they show and explain the school shooting the most. The photos show who were impacted and affected the most by the shooting. The University students, the victims who passed away and victims families were the ones who were mainly affected by it. My image arrangement goes from where the shooting took place all the way to the suspect getting arrested. I think the way I placed the pictures show and represent the situation that had happened. It makes sense to readers and they can understand clearly what is happening and what is trying to be explained. The way photos are being used and arranged in a story can make a big impact on how the reader reads the blog or article. I think pictures are going to be used more frequently for reporting news. Pictures get straight to the point. Pictures also aren’t seen as boring, while words can lose and bore a reader. Like the famous quote says “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
